Any book by Priscilla Oliveras. They are just fun to read.

Olga Dies Dreaming was definitely an amazing book to read.

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo is so good.

I also really enjoyed What’s Mine and Yours by Naima Coster

I’ll second Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez

I’ve also recently enjoyed:

  • Calling for a Blanket Dance / Oskar Hokeah (mixed Indigenous/Mexican roots)
  • Family Lore / Elizabeth Acevedo (everything by EA is good)
  • Mexikid / Pedro Martin (kid-friendly graphic memoir)

I’m also a fan of books by Celia C Perez’s middlegrade fiction and Anna-Marie McLemore’s queer-inclusive magical realism.

Mexican Gothic and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau both my Silvia Moreno-Garcia (this woman has me in a chokehold I’ll read anything she writes)

The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas

To be fair, if you’re not into any sort of spooky at all these aren’t for you, especially The Hacienda BUT I still highly recommend giving them a read!
