Happy New Year, Readers!
What was your most-read genre of 2023?
Fiction: Murder/Mysteries
I do love a good “who done it”.
Fiction: mostly fantasy and horror. But I got into some pretty good murder mysteries this year.
Probably historical fiction, crime and mystery.
Psychological thriller!
Hands down, Psychological and Domestic Thrillers
My most read genre are mysteries.
I read a real variety of genres. This thread made me wonder if I still read mostly mystery / thrillers, so I took a look at my 2023 reading history and tallied each book as its top tagged genre. Mysteries are still my go-to books!
Here’s my breakdown:
Mystery - 23
Romance - 17
Thriller - 15
Historical Fiction - 11
Contemporary Fiction - 10
Graphic Novels - 6
Nonfiction - 5
Fantasy - 4
Horror - 2
Classic - 2
Short stories - 1
Total books - 96
A lot of the books have overlap into other genres, but I used the most obvious or most commonly tagged genre for those. This was really interesting to me because I stopped reading romance for many years and was reading a lot of World War II fiction. Recently, I’ve needed a break from those and romance is just a lighter option. I was surprised to see how many I read this year and I’ve been really enjoying them.
Thanks for this question. This was a fun little distraction today.
I am a huge fan of mystery, suspense, psychological, crime and horror thrillers - these are my more-read genre all time!
I read mostly historical fiction; it’s my favorite genre
Fantasy which is not at all a surprise. Dragons and magic are my favorite things in books lol
